OVERVIEW

Branding a Football Club from the Ground Up

Vancouver Strikers FC is a fictional football club I created to explore the full scope of brand building in sports. The project spanned brand identity, social media presence, out-of-home campaigns, and marketing collateral. My goal was to design a system that felt professional and credible enough to sit alongside established clubs, while leaving room for playful fan culture. This project allowed me to test how a consistent identity could scale across channels where speed, clarity, and emotional resonance are critical.

BRAND IDENTITY

A System Rooted in Energy and Discipline

The identity draws from Vancouver’s energy and football’s dynamism. A sharp, sans-serif typeface was chosen for its authority and legibility across fast-moving platforms. The color palette combined deep navy with a striking red contrasting enough for visibility in stadiums and scrollable feeds. A modular grid underpinned all applications, ensuring that from a matchday program to a social tile, the composition felt cohesive. This design discipline gave the brand credibility while allowing room for expressive moments tied to fan culture.

BRAND ACTIVATION

Extending the Club Beyond the Pitch

To extend the brand into the public sphere, I developed a series of out-of-home posters and social media templates. The posters emphasized large, confident typography and bold color blocking—mirroring the scale and energy of live sport. On social, the system adapted to real-time content, using flexible templates for scores, player spotlights, and match announcements. The consistency across OOH and digital touchpoints made the brand recognizable in seconds, while the adaptability meant it could stay relevant throughout a fast-moving season.

REFLECTION

Designing a Believable, Scalable System

This project reinforced the importance of scalability in brand systems. Designing for a football club highlighted how a strong identity must work as well on a phone screen as it does in a stadium. Building the Strikers brand taught me to think beyond isolated visuals and instead design ecosystems that anticipate growth and change. Most importantly, it showed me how disciplined systems can make a fictional brand feel real credible enough to be believed, and flexible enough to evolve.

CHALLENGES

Design a scalable, multi-touchpoint brand system that communicates credibility without relying on emotional overdesign or lifestyle marketing.

  1. Reducing design noise while retaining visual presence in a saturated market.

  1. Balancing minimalism with memorability, ensuring the brand remains recognizable.

  1. Ensuring consistency across physical and digital experiences.
