OVERVIEW
This project was a typographic interpretation of Kafka's A Hunger Artist. Rather than simply designing around the text, I wanted the design itself to carry the meaning.
My reading of the story kept coming back to one idea: we've lost our patience. The hunger artist performs an act that asks his audience to wait, to watch, to care, and they simply stop. I wanted whoever reads this book to experience a version of that. The typography slows you down. The text is revealed gradually, asking a little more of you than you might expect.
Running through every page is a box : the artist's cage. It frames the text, contains it, traps it. And as the book progresses, that box shrinks. The space gets tighter with each page, quietly mirroring the artist's own slow disappearance. By the end, there's nothing left.No box, no text, nothing. It's the only way I could think to represent his death honestly, not describing it, just letting him disappear from the page entirely. He's gone, and the reader is left with silence.
